Author Biographies

Richard Thompson

 

Richard Thompson is president of Regenesis, Inc., a homeowner association management company founded in 1996 in Portland, Oregon. His wide range of experience, skills, and credentials make him uniquely qualified in homeowner association management and governance. He publishes the Regenesis Report, (the National Edition is distributed by email each month to 5,000 homeowner association board members, managers, and developers across the United States and Canada) a widely circulated monthly newsletter about good homeowner association management practices, and he hosts Regenesis.net, the world’s largest homeowner association information resource.

 

Mr. Thompson publishes articles online for RealtyTimes.com and Community Associations Network. He publishes magazine articles for Community Manager, ECHO Journal, Condo Management, and Florida Community Association Journal.

 

He has been interviewed on radio by “I Bought the Farm” and “On the Commons” and by HGTV. In addition, he wrote a chapter in Donald Trump’s book The Best Real Estate Advice I Ever Received. He has been quoted in The Cooperator, Common Ground, CNN Money, The Washington Times, Bloomberg Personal Finance, The Chicago Tribune, The Florida Times-Union, Business Journal, The Daily Journal of Commerce, The Oregonian, The Mail Tribune, The Calgary Herald, and The Coast News, as well as many others.

 

Mr. Thompson has held real estate broker licenses in Montana, Hawaii, and Oregon, and he is a former member of the Million Dollar Club. He is also a member of the National Association of Real Estate Editors, the Community Associations Institute, and Community Associations Institute-Oregon Chapter, and the California Association of Community Managers. He is President of the Association of Professional Reserve Analysts and the founder of Oregon Washington Community Association Managers.


 

Ellen Hirsch de Haan, B.A., J.D., M.Ed.

Ms. de Haan was selected as the recipient of the prestigious Distinguished Service Award by the National Community Association Institute. She recently received national recognition from The National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers (NBC-CAM). She is Chairman of the Board of the Community Associations Institute (CAI) National Executive Committee. Ms. de Haan is a member of the National CAI Teaching Faculty. She is a member of the American Bar Association Committee on Condominiums, Cooperatives, and Associations, and is currently working on a chapter for an ABA book on the subject of Creation and Management of Community Associations. She has served on a Committee to revise and rewrite the State of Florida License Examination for Community Association Managers.

Ms. de Haan is a member of the Board of Advisors of the University of Miami School of Law Institute on Condominium and Cluster Developments, and lectures at the annual Law Institute. Ms. de Haan is a member of the Florida Bar and The College of Community Association Lawyers.

Ms. de Haan is a contributing editor for Common Ground Magazine. Her latest publication is a book entitled Self-Management: A Guide for the Small Community Association. In addition, she has authored an article entitled "Aging in Place - The Development of Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities" published in the Journal of Community Association Law; and a book of the same name. In addition, Ms. de Haan has authored an article entitled "Aging in Place: Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities and Condominium Living" published in Elder's Advisor, The Journal of Elder Law and Post-Retirement Planning. Ms. de Haan is on the Board of Advisors for Community Association Management Insider, a national newsletter published by Brownstone Publishers, Inc.

Currently, Ms. de Haan serves as a Commissioner for the National Board of Certification–Community Association Managers, and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Community Associations Institute Foundation for Community Association Research.
